It's been 9 long weeks...

Hello world. It's been 9 weeks since we've last communicated and let me tell you a lot has changed. When we left off last time, that "baby" was on her way. Now, I'm all for the miracle of birth, but when the humans left, they didn't come back for 3 days! Thankfully Grandma came to feed me, but only twice a day.

The humans have been talking non stop about this "baby" and I have since learned her name to be Claire. I approve. Now, I wasn't exactly on board with the decision to bring another mouth to feed into our happy little family at first, but Claire has grown on me a little. We've even learned to play together.

Hey, I'm not saying that I'm not going to turn her into my food slave as soon as I teach her to walk, I'm just saying we're getting along for now.

So I learned in the last week that Claire went to the doctor for a 2 month checkup and was told she weighs 10.64 pounds and is 22 inches long now. That means she's gained over 3 pounds and 3 inches since she was born. I went to the doctor this week too, and I LOST 3 pounds, but you don't hear the female screaming that from the rooftops. I feel cheated.

They feed her all the time. She's working the system somehow and hasn't let me in on her secret just yet. I'm going to figure it out sooner or later. The humans seem to think that Claire is talking to them or something, but all I hear come out of her mouth are "ooooo's" and "ahhhh's."

I'll continue to update cyberspace on developments here as they happen, but for now I'm going to do a quick google search on mind control to teach Claire how to manipulate the humans into feeding me more.

Claire's Visitors!

Time Flies

Claire is 2 weeks old today and as you can see it has been a CrAzY couple of weeks. We are still getting the hang out this, but thankfully we have had a lot family and friends helping us out. We could not have survived these past few weeks if it weren't for our amazing support system.

SHE'S HERE!!!!!!

Claire Bari Bishop was born today at 12:53 PM. She weighed in at 7 lbs 3 oz and measured 19.5 inches long. Both Becca and Claire are doing great. We'll provide more pictures and details as the day goes on.
Happy Birthday Claire!

Guest Blogger: Where did they go?

Today, the humans left for work earlier than they normally do. It was very strange. They seemed very rushed and the girl human sounded like she was in pain. Here's how it happened:
I had just finished my midnight snack and settled onto the bed inbetween the humans (I just use them for warmth) and right as I was counting cans of food to help me fall asleep like I normally do, the girl human sat up and started making noises while holding her belly. I ignored it at first and thought I could go back to sleep, but this kept happening for about a minute or so every 4 to 5 minutes. They got up, rushed around to put on clothes and grabbed a bag that I noticed they had packed a couple weeks ago. They fed me, but they better not think that's going to last me til they get back. Wait a minute....rushing around...painful noises....leaving early in the morning...that "baby" is on it's way isn't it? Oh very clever "baby". I'll have to see if I can get ahold of them and figure out what's happening.
To be continued...

They better not have lied to us about her being a girl!!!

We are still working on artwork for the walls, but here is Baby Bishop's room so far. Special thanks goes to Julie (James' sister) for painting the walls and Becca's mom for designing everything!

Thursday, October 15th...

can't come fast enough! Although, I doubt she will be born on her due date, she is welcome to come early too. We had a doctor's appointment on Friday and unfortunately I haven't dilated at all. If Baby Bishop isn't here by Sunday, we'll head to the hospital that night to prepare to be induced Monday morning.

We feel as prepared as we think we can be at this point. The room is finished, bags are packed, I've got plenty of music on my iPod to get me through labor. This baby will enter the world rocking out to The Boss (James isn't quite as enthusiastic about the music selection as I am).

Check back for updates as we countdown to the social event of the year!

We are 39 weeks!!!

A question that needs to be answered

I know what you're all thinking..."James, the playoffs begin tomorrow. What happens if Becca goes into labor while the Yankees are on?"
I thank you all for your concern. While we hope we can avoid this most unfortunate of circumstances, the reality of the situation is that we have no control over when our little one decides to join the world.

The ideal situation would be to avoid these dates: October 7th, 9th, 11th, 12th, or 14th (first round- Yankees vs Twins). But in the event she wants to catch the clinching game, I've already taken the necessary precautions to ensure the hospital has a TV not only in the postpartum room, but the delivery room as well. This way I'll be able to catch every pitch and the miracle of life all at once.

Of course I'm only kidding and I wouldn't be that insensitive to force my wife to watch the Yankees while she is delivering our child....

I'll be on the iPhone.

Guest Blogger: I'm taking over!!!!

Hello cyberspace. The humans are out tonight, so I figured I would hop on this thing and give y'all the real scoop on this "baby" I've heard so much about. I've been in denial for a while about this development, but I've realized no matter what I do or say, this "baby" thing is going to be around for the foreseeable future. I've done some research on the subject, and I've discovered that "babies" are little aliens that communicate with their eyes. I don’t have time for that. Now, I'm not going to do what everyone expects me to do and freak out. Rather I think that I can turn this into a positive for myself. If this thing intends on moving in here, I'm going to have to lay down some ground rules. So pay attention "baby" these ground rules are for you.

1) I get fed first. I can and will cry louder and longer than you.
2) I was here first. I depend on those people for a variety of things and I don't intend to let you undo the years of training I've done on them.
3) I get fed first.
4) I swear if you wake me up in the middle of the night like I've read "babies" are likely to do, you better tell the humans to feed me.
5) I get fed first.
6) I understand for the first couple of months you won't be any more interactive than a pet turtle. Once you grow out of that you better learn to pet me. Long, even strokes with the grain. Start practicing on the humans before you bring an inferior pet my way.
7) I get fed first.

If you can live by these rules, I see no reason why we can't get along.

OK internet, the humans are on their way back and it's time to get fed.

Baby Education

James and I have decided to take a few baby education classes before Baby Bishop is born. Some of the information was so ridiculous, we felt compelled to share with everyone:

1. NEVER carry your baby and hot liquids at the same time
2. Keep alcoholic beverages out of reach of children (James is having a difficult time with this)
3. Never call medicine "candy"
4. Quite possibly one of the reasons we are 34 weeks pregnant...CPR:

5. Never allow James in a Lamaze class...okay, the book didn't say that, but it should have:
James getting HIMSELF comfortable while the pregnant lady, ME, had to fend for myself!

Baby Weight Poll

How much did Baby Bishop weigh at her last appointment?
Officially 3lbs 7 oz, but you should never ask a lady her weight!

It looks like we robbed Babies R Us...

We are very grateful for all of our wonderful family and friends that gave us two amazing Baby Showers! We don't think Baby Bishop will be going without anytime soon.

August 13, 2009-Pictures of Baby Bishop

First and foremost everyone is healthy and right on schedule. We are really happy that both of our moms got to join us today because our "ultrasound technologist" decided to give us a 3-D sonogram in addition to our regular sonogram--being nice to people really pays off!!! Baby Bishop has quite the chubby cheeks on her, but she also has her Daddy's big head (not looking forward to that coming out, oy vey)
Baby Bishop was so exhausted from performing that she let out a big yawn...too cute!
We have attempted to point out her sweet little chin and nose in this picture...hope you all can figure it out.Baby Bishop's profile shot...she is doing her best 'thinker' pose
I can't wait to bite these little thighs, which the tech said were "nice and plump"

Our NEW Best Friend

As I get further along in my pregnancy (i.e., I can no longer see my feet) I have noticed that my sleep has decreased somewhat--at least 30%. I was told I needed to buy a body pillow which is supposed to give me more support and comfort at night, as demonstrated below. I call him Beefy, my body pillow:

He's lovable, soft, and squeezable and from time to time, I've even noticed James snuggling up next to him. Every woman should have her own Beefy!

Lunch...the baby takes over!

Sunday, June 21, 2009 is the day the baby couldn't make up her mind on what she wanted for lunch. We sat down at Cindi's Deli (delicious), and peered at the menu only to find that EVERYTHING sounded good. This is not a dramatization. What I'm about to describe are the real events that took place. I proceeded to order matzo ball soup for an appetizer, followed by an omelet. This was not just any omelet. This was a 3 egg white, jalapeno, bacon, and muenster cheese omelet. This omelet came with your choice of a side...for me, pancakes, in honor of my Dad on Father's Day. Pancakes were one of his favorite things to eat. The crowning piece of the meal was the side order of pickles that I just had to have. It was AWESOME! (didn't eat all of it, but sampled everything) James was in awe of my order and took this picture because he didn't think anyone would believe the story.

Rent a Baby...

This week James and I got to practice what it will be like when we have our little bundle of joy. My sister-in-law, Misty & my brother, Jordan, gave birth to their second child, Henry. As you can see, Henry is being taught the finer things in life by James.

We have thoroughly enjoyed...well, maybe enjoyed isn't the right word, how about...we have been shocked to learn what exactly goes on just hours before and after the delivery! Over the next 4 months little Henry is going to give us great on-the-fly training.

Somebody wants attention and it's not James!

For the past two weeks I have felt like a popcorn machine, but this weekend we finally realized it wasn't just gas. James got to feel our little popcorn kernel kick on Saturday. It was the most amazing thing to see James with his 'shocked' expression. Here is a glimpse of James 'shocked' expression.

Harley is so excited about Baby Bishop's arrival!

Harley (our large and in charge cat/lion) can't wait to be a Big Sister! As you can see, she can barely contain herself.

May 22, 2009: The Third Appointment

Our Beautiful Baby Girl

Today we found out that our Baby Girl weighs 11 ounces and 9 inches long...our little urban achiever!

The Doctor's Appointment: The List

Because I suffer from an acute case of 'baby brain' I have had to write down the majority of my thoughts...which aren't a lot lately. At today's appointment I came with my list of things to ask the doctor (here are a couple of the highlights):

1. Becca: Can I ride a bicycle?
Dr. Hagood: Sure, riding the bicycle won't hurt you as long as you are comfortable doing it.
James: I'm not concerned about the bicycle hurting her, but I don't think she can stay on!
Becca: Haha, he never has faith in me.

2. Becca: Can I drink wine? James won't even let me have a sip=(
Dr. Hagood: There is nothing wrong with a few sips, but I wouldn't go ordering your own glass!
James: I just think there is something wrong with standing in a bar drinking wine while pregnant--it just doesn't look good.
Becca: Fine, you order it and I will steal a sip.
